There were no surprises in the race for the red-white-red men's downhill champion. In the absence of Vincent Kriechmayr and Stefan Babinsky, Carinthian Otmar Striedinger snatched the title on the Reiteralm. Daniel Danklmair was close behind in second place, with bronze going to the young Tyrolean Matteo Haas.

Philipp Lintschinger from Oberwölz surprised everyone with the best time in training - but the 30-year-old "only" managed seventh place in the race. The title, his third after the 2021 super-G on the Glungezer and the 2018 downhill in Saalbach, was snatched by veteran Otmar Striedinger. The Salomon skier beat Styrian local hero Daniel Danklmaier to second place by five hundredths of a second. Third place went to 19-year-old Tyrolean Matteo Haas, who pushed Stefan Eichberger and overall European Cup winner Manuel Traninger into fourth and fifth place.

Defending champion and top duo missing
Defending champion Johannes Strolz did not compete, instead finishing eighth at the German Youth Championships in Pfelders (Italy). Vincent Kriechmayr and Stefan Babinsky, the two best-ranked Austrians in the last Downhill World Cup season, were also absent. The duo are currently in Norway for equipment tests with their ski company Head.
