Thrown out of car
Passenger would have been impaled in fatal crash
In the only tight bend for miles around, a car crashed into a timber transporter. A log drilled through the windshield of the car, and if a passenger had been sitting there, he too would have died. The driver of the car was killed. The victim was thrown out of the vehicle in the accident.
"They had to hit each other there in the tight bend, that was fate." - A horror scenario for emergency services became reality at first sight in St. Oswald near Freistadt: when a car collided with a timber transporter, a tree trunk had pierced the windscreen on the driver's side. The driver (79) was dead. But the wood had been rammed over the steering wheel and into the passenger seat: "If someone had been sitting there, they would have been impaled and also dead."
Driver not wearing a seatbelt
The driver died because he was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver's door burst open on impact and the 79-year-old from St. Oswald was thrown out and into the forest.
Series of fatal accidents
This was the third road fatality since Thursday in which the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. Near Mondsee, a 62-year-old man from St. Gilgen crashed into oncoming traffic. And in Heiligenberg, a 21-year-old from Eschenau was thrown from a van to his death in an accident.
