Driver collided with three cars, died in wreck
A terrible accident at Mondsee in Upper Austria. A driver (62) crossed into the oncoming lane, hit two vehicles before crashing head-on into a large SUV. The driver could only be recovered dead, another person was injured.
According to several witnesses, the man was traveling at excessive speed. The driver from the Salzburg-Land district ended up driving into oncoming traffic and hit two oncoming cars. He then crashed his car head-on into a VW Touareg belonging to a 21-year-old - also from the Salzburg-Land district.
Fire department found a debris field
The head of operations for the St. Lorenz fire department, Wolfgang Schachl, reported a confusing debris field on arrival: "When we arrived at the scene of the accident, we first had to get an overview, as the four vehicles involved in the accident were widely scattered on the B154."
Driver died at the scene
One person - the person who caused the accident - died at the scene despite attempts at resuscitation by the emergency services. He was not wearing a seatbelt and did not have a driver's license. Another person was taken to hospital by the Red Cross. Around 40 members of the Sankt Lorenz and Mondsee fire departments were deployed and the B154 was closed in the area of the accident until 11.45 pm.
