Freakout in the pub
After scandal with wife: mayor resigns
An angry outburst by a mayor in Burgenland has serious consequences. As reported, an argument with his wife in a pub threatened to escalate. He had raised his hand against her in public. Banned from entering and approaching! Now the ÖVP politician has drawn the consequences.
The mayor's "outburst" last Holy Saturday in front of eyewitnesses caused consternation and horror not only in his home community, but also in political circles. The police issued a ban on entering and approaching the head of the village. At the same time - as required by law - a weapons ban was also imposed.
Under great pressure
For the time being, the local politician has been "banned from the premises" for 14 days. In the foreseeable future, he will have to undergo a mandatory six-hour violence prevention counseling session. Shortly after the incident, the People's Party announced an investigation into the matter. The investigation is currently underway.
The local leader concerned did not want to wait for the result. The pressure on him increased from all sides. After long deliberations and discussions, the mayor, who had been classified as a "threat", made a decision on Thursday and announced his resignation: "Thank you for your years of support!"
