DFB gets serious
Will Nagelsmann stay? Völler: “He has many requests”
The DFB is getting serious! Sports director Rudi Völler has confirmed that Julian Nagelsmann should remain as national coach beyond the home European Championships - despite "many inquiries".
"That would be our great wish," said Völler on Wednesday before the DFB Cup semi-final between Bayer Leverkusen and Fortuna Düsseldorf when asked about a contract extension for the heavily courted coach on Sky.
"He has many requests"
According to the long-time Bayer manager, Nagelsmann is open to the signals from the DFB officials. Nevertheless, a return to club soccer is also possible. "He has many inquiries, but of course he knows that we have a good team with which we could also achieve something in the coming years," emphasized Völler.
"The most important team in Germany"
"Coaching a national team is something totally special. It's the most important team we have in Germany. I think he likes that. That's important to know. In the end, we'll discuss it calmly. He knows, of course, that we would like to continue with him."
Like Nagelsmann, Völler himself was only supposed to stay with the DFB until the end of the European Championship. However, there has long been talk of extending Völler's contract beyond that, and Nagelsmann is also in favor of the idea. Völler at least gave a small hint of this. "I like it at the moment, let's wait and see," he said.
