World handball player Hansen ends his career in the summer

A bang in the handball world! According to Danish media reports, Mikkel Hansen, arguably the best player of the past ten years, is to hang up his boots this summer. 

As reported by "TV 2", Hansen will no longer fulfill his contract with Aalborg Handbold, which expires in 2025, and will retire at the end of the season. The Danish top club has invited players to a press conference on Wednesday afternoon to discuss their "future collaboration".

World champion, European champion, Olympic champion
In addition to three world handball player awards (2011, 2015 and 2018), the 36-year-old's trophy collection is adorned with three world championship titles, one European championship title and an Olympic gold medal. He has also won numerous championship titles at club level - for example with Paris Saint-Germain, Svendborg and Copenhagen. 

In recent years, Hansen has had to contend with several physical setbacks (knee surgery, pulmonary embolism, stress symptoms, groin injury), and at the European Championships in February he and Denmark were narrowly beaten by the French in the final.
