Constant hostility
City kicker: “My mother always asks me …”
In an interview with the club, Jack Grealish expressed his surprise and hurt at the constant hostility towards him. Even his mother keeps asking him about the subject. His goal celebration also contains a clear message.
"I always wonder why they boo me. My mother also keeps asking me why that is," explained the 28-year-old in the club's own City interview. He admitted that he often worries about the criticism and persistent hostility towards him.
The England international is often the target of boos and abusive chants, especially at away games. "I really don't know why it happens. It happens everywhere. I have to look on the bright side and take it as a compliment. There's nothing else I can do," said Grealish.
Goal celebration as a message
The midfielder gives an answer to this with his goal celebration, for example. He puts both index fingers in his ears. A sign that he doesn't want to listen to the hostility, as the City player emphasizes.
Meanwhile, he already has cult status among his own supporters. On the one hand because of his marathon celebrations after winning the treble, but above all because of his social commitment. Grealish, whose younger sister was born with polio, is a strong advocate for people with disabilities.
