Rookie Wembanyama plays big in the NBA

Victor Wembanyama continues to play big in the National Basketball Association. The 20-year-old Frenchman scored a whopping 40 points in the San Antonio Spurs' 130-126 win after overtime against the New York Knicks.

Wembanyama, who also grabbed 20 rebounds, was the first NBA "rookie" since Shaquille O'Neal in 1993 to score at least 40 points and 20 rebounds in a game. He added seven assists, two steals and a block to his statistics.

Wembanyama stole the show from Knicks playmaker Jaylen Brunson, although the latter scored 61 points, just one shy of Carmelo Anthony's franchise record (2014).

Chasing records
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets prevailed thanks to a three-point gala against the Chicago Bulls. In their 125:108 (47:52) home win, the Nets hit a total of 25 of their 44 long-range shots, and with 18 successful threes in the second half, the team from New York set a record in the North American Basketball League.
