Accident in the Zillertal

Driver hits traffic sign while overtaking

An overtaking maneuver ended Friday morning for a driver (55) in the Tyrolean Zillertal in the ditch and subsequently in hospital. The man had previously rammed a large traffic sign with his car. 

According to the police, the accident happened at around 11.30 am. The local man was driving his car on the main road in the Zillertal. In the municipality of Aschau, the 55-year-old overtook several vehicles. He probably noticed an oncoming car too late.

The driver swerved to avoid the vehicle and crossed the road. There, his car hit a large traffic sign and was thrown over the embankment. The 55-year-old suffered serious injuries in the accident and was taken to Schwaz Hospital. His car is badly damaged.
