Marchfeld on the upswing
“Continuity pays off”
He did not have it easy at first after taking office. In the first five rounds, secret favorites Marchfeld only managed two points in the Eastern Football League. Criticism grew louder and louder, with many calling for coach Hannes Friesenbichler to be sacked. "We were extremely unlucky," Friesenbichler looks back, "but the club always had my back and stayed calm." And apparently did everything right. Marchfeld climbed up the table step by step, have been unbeaten in six league games and have recently celebrated three wins in a row. "Continuity often pays off in the end," winks the coach, "it took a while for the boys to internalize my game plan."
Friesenbichler also made adjustments in the winter. The once highly praised attacking duo of Sen/Tompte was sold, but quality was added in the form of Duvnjak and Markl. "Our game is already impressive at the moment." Especially that of winger Nicolas Meister, who has scored three times in the last five games. Friesenbichler: "He's lost weight and now has a lot of explosiveness in his legs. Technically, he's always been top."
"They sold themselves short"
After the 4-0 win over Toni Polster's Viktoria, the next Viennese club to visit Mannsdorf on Friday is fourth-placed TWL Elektra. "They've sold themselves short so far. It's important for us to keep up the good performances." Keyword: continuity!
