Vettel tests Porsche and talks about F1 comeback
Four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel has completed an endurance test for Porsche. The German completed 118 laps over a total of 581 kilometers on the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain - and does not want to rule out a return to Formula 1 afterwards.
"Never say never," grins Vettel in an interview with RTL. "Of course you think about it from time to time and toy with the idea. But when I made the decision back then, I had several reasons for it. I didn't know what it would be like afterwards. Now, of course, I have more experience of life without Formula 1."
There were even rumors recently that the German could take over from Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes. After all, Toto Wolff is a good friend. "Of course, we also talked about the fact that things are happening at Mercedes, but not specifically that I could take his place," said the 36-year-old during the tests with the Porsche 963.
Is Le Mans now waiting?
The Porsche 963 will be used in the endurance classic at Le Mans. The Porsche works drivers helped Vettel a lot and "explained what is special and what I have to get used to. That made it easy for me." Vettel, 53-time Grand Prix winner, had already prepared for the circuit in Aragon in the simulator. There are no concrete plans yet for Vettel and Porsche beyond the test. "We'll see what happens after that - at the moment there are no further plans for the future," Vettel had previously said.
