Gusts of up to 104 km/h set a new record

After a brief respite, a stormy low shortly before Easter sets a new record in March with winds of over 100 km/h in Austria. Temperatures are also higher than ever compared to previous years. At midday, for example, over 23 degrees Celsius were measured in Kössen (Tyrol).

In addition to long periods of sunshine and temperatures of over 20 degrees in some places, the strong Föhn wind also set in at the same time. The peak gusts of 104 km/h were measured in Umhausen (Tyrol). In Bad Gastein (Salzburg), wind gusts of up to 88 km/h have been measured so far. The trend is rising.

Temperatures continue to rise
The unusually high temperatures of 23.7 degrees in Tyrol set a new record since measurements began. The next Föhn storm, including a rise in temperatures, is expected on Good Friday. On Saturday, temperatures of 21 to 24 degrees are within reach in the north and east and locally even early summer temperatures of 25 degrees in Lower Austria.

Massive cold snap
If you look at the Easter vacations of the last 30 years, the weather has shown its wintry side, according to weather experts. In some cases, a massive cold snap with snowfall down to low altitudes made the Easter egg hunt downright difficult.
