Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has told an anecdote about Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur. Around a year ago, the two flew to the Grand Prix in Australia together. Vasseur had to stand for 13 hours due to his health and felt enormous pressure to succeed. That is why Wolff can still be happy about his rival's one-two victory a year later.

Vasseur and Wolff have been close friends for years. That is why they sometimes travel to Formula 1 races together. Like last year to the Grand Prix in Australia, as the Austrian now reveals.

However, the flight did not go smoothly for the Frenchman, according to Wolff: "Frederic's intervertebral disc had popped out and he could neither sit nor sleep. He was on the plane for 13 hours." What's more, the 55-year-old was fresh in office at the time.

Pressure from an entire country
As the new Ferrari team boss, he was already under pressure. "Then one of his cars crashed in Melbourne and the other ended up outside the points after a penalty. It looked catastrophic," explains the Mercedes team boss. Vasseur suddenly felt "all the pressure of Italy on his shoulders".

That's why Wolff was still able to be happy with his rival after the Ferrari one-two victory: "As much as I hate our situation, he deserves this result. And Ferrari deserves it. And Italy deserves it."
