Russia has launched another missile attack on the Ukrainian capital Kiev. A residential building was hit and ten people were injured. The terrorist air strike against civilian targets is probably intended as "retaliation" for the recent Ukrainian attacks on Crimea.

According to the local authorities, a three-storey building in the center of Kiev was completely destroyed. Rocket debris also fell in three other parts of the city. Two missiles were fired over Kiev, the Ukrainian air force said. According to the authorities, at least ten people were injured in various parts of the city, said Culture Minister Rostyslaw Karandjejew.

Air alert only shortly before impact
The alarm in the capital was only triggered shortly before the first detonation. Normally, people have more lead time to get to the shelters. "Explosions in the capital. Get to shelters immediately," wrote Mayor Vitali Klitschko on Telegram. Rescue workers were deployed in three city districts.

The all-clear was given again at 11 a.m. (local time), reported the "Kyiv Independent". According to the newspaper, at least four explosions had been heard.

Ambassador: attack with hypersonic missiles
According to the US ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, the attacks were carried out with hypersonic missiles. According to unconfirmed reports, Russia fired "Onik" or "Zircon" missiles at Kiev from occupied Crimea. The attack was possibly intended as retaliation for the recent Ukrainian attacks on Sevastopol.

President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked rescue workers, police and helpers for their efforts. "We will never tire of repeating that Ukraine needs more air defense," the head of state wrote on Telegram. This would protect cities and save lives. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba had previously launched a corresponding appeal and specifically called for Patriot systems in particular.

Power outage in Odessa after drone attack
Russian combat drones also damaged the power supply in the Odessa and Mykolaiv regions in southern Ukraine on Monday. As a result, there was a partial power cut in Odessa. According to the city administration, public transportation with streetcars and trolleybuses in Odessa had to be suspended. No one was injured.

A substation in the Mykolaiv region was also damaged and caught fire, according to the energy supplier Ukrenerho. According to the military, debris from a drone also fell onto a two-storey residential building there. It caught fire. Eleven people were injured, two of them seriously. The Ukrainian army announced in the morning that eight of nine Russian drones launched from the Crimean peninsula had been shot down during the night. The Ukrinform news agency also reported that there were six airstrikes on the Zaporizhzhya region and artillery fire on four locations in the eastern border region of Sumy.

Heavy attacks on energy infrastructure
The Russian army has been stepping up its air strikes against Ukraine's energy supply again for several days. This has caused major problems, particularly in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. The repairs to the grid there will take another week or so, said Ukrenerho boss Volodymyr Kudrytskyi on Ukrainian television.
