Ovechkin shoots Washington into the play-off ranks
The Washington Capitals have returned to the play-off ranks in the North American ice hockey league NHL with their fifth win in the last six games. The Capitals celebrated a 3-0 home win over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday, with Alexander Ovechkin scoring the goals to make it 2-0 (44') and 3-0 (52').
The Russian superstar has scored eight goals in the last five games and now has 26 goals for the season and 848 NHL goals.
The 38-year-old is now 46 goals short of Wayne Gretzky's all-time scoring record (894 goals).
"Delivers great things"
"In the most important games of the year, when our season is on the line almost every night, he simply delivers great things. He scores important goals to keep us in the race," Washington coach Spencer Carbery said of Ovechkin.
