Body discovered after car fire in Lower Austria

A car with Viennese license plates was on fire next to a recycling collection center near Pressbaum (Lower Austria) on Monday night. A dead man was discovered. The State Office of Criminal Investigation is investigating.  

The emergency services were alerted at around 3 a.m. because a car was on fire on the road between Pressbaum and Wolfsgraben. When the helpers arrived, the car was still on fire.

The fire department extinguished the burning car, which was located directly under the highway bridge. One person could only be recovered dead, police spokesman Stefan Loidl confirmed a report by ORF Lower Austria on request.

Background unclear
The background is still unclear for the time being. "The identity of the deceased has not yet been established", said Loidl. However, there are increasing indications that it is the 28-year-old owner of the vehicle, as he could not be found. According to the report, the male body was found in the back seat of the car.

The "Kurier" reported that criminal investigators are assuming a suicide. When asked, the police referred to ongoing investigations.
