From sweet treats to a full wallet

Easter is just around the corner and presents are a must. Retailers are happy to see customers eager to buy.

"I've already seen two spoons and a flower in the garden behind the big bush," says 5-year-old Laura excitedly. Who are we talking about here? Clearly the Easter bunny. Because he is already hopping from garden to garden and is in the starting position for Easter in exactly one week's time. Once again, colorful nests are waiting in the best hiding places, which are well filled. And it's not just the little ones among us who are excited, the grown-ups are also looking forward to the festivities and are already in a great shopping mood in the days leading up to Easter.

This is how much we spend
On average, Carinthians spend 70 euros per person on presents, meaning that the Easter business generates 16 million euros nationwide.

In the top five ranking, one gift is clearly in first place: sweets. Around 2 million chocolate bunnies are sold in Carinthia, closely followed by four million colorful Easter eggs. The third most popular Easter gift is toys, especially for children. Flowers no longer quite made it onto the podium, but are still very popular. And fifth place is shared by cash and vouchers, in line with the motto "Only cash is king".

Good business
This means that Easter business this year is roughly on a par with last year, which is good news for retailers. Anyone who wants to make a last-minute purchase on Holy Saturday can do so in the stores until 2 p.m., after which it's off to the food blessing so that nothing stands in the way of a successful Easter.
