Scandal or great?
Supermarket chain separates legendary “Twinni” ice cream
Green or orange - this question divides generations. Eskimo has been selling "Twinni" ice cream with pear and orange flavors since 1968. Now an Austrian food chain has launched the two flavors separately. Reactions range from enthusiasm to horror.
"It's criminal", posted the operators of the popular Instagram page ThugLife Austria. They added a picture from the Spar freezer shelf showing the two flavors "Pear ice cream on a stick" and "Orange ice cream on a stick".
"Was the separation amicable?"
The reactions reflect the full range of emotions among ice cream fans. "Market gap filled", writes one. "Ah such nonsense ... the fun is the break-up", says another user.
Spar itself, on the other hand, commented with a wink: "Now everyone can eat two pieces of their favorite flavor - we don't see a problem with that."
Others take it with humor: "Was the separation amicable?" asks one user. Spar replied: "Relationship status: it's complicated." At least one misconception has now been finally cleared up: "I always thought the green ice cream was apple," posts one follower. That has now been cleared up.
Classic tops the sales lists
The 'Twinni' is one of Austrians' favorite ice cream products; according to the manufacturer Eskimo, it has topped the sales lists almost without interruption since its market launch at the end of the 1960s. In 2020, the female counterpart "Twinna" was launched in strawberry and orange-passion fruit flavors in red and yellow.
