Good winter tourism
Tourism boomed in Salzburg in the winter season from November 2023 to February 2024. As the latest statistics show, the number of overnight stays rose in February.
February 2024 follows on seamlessly from the good results of the first month of this year. Overnight stays increased in all districts including the city of Salzburg, reports the state of Salzburg.
Compared to February 2023, the number of overnight stays in February 2024 increased in all districts. In total, there were 192,200 additional overnight stays in Salzburg. Pinzgau continues to be the strongest. Around 2.15 million overnight stays were recorded here out of the 4.64 million in the entire province. Second place goes to Pongau (see chart).
Despite the mild winter in February 2024, all districts recorded an increase in the number of overnight stays compared to the previous year. Significant growth was recorded in Lungau and Tennengau in particular, with increases of 8.4 and 8.2 percent respectively. A slight increase of 0.3 percent was also recorded in the city of Salzburg, while Flachgau saw an increase of 4.3 percent. In Pinzgau and Pongau, further increases of 4.5 and 3.4 percent respectively were recorded in addition to the already very good overnight stay figures of the previous year.
The ranking of countries of origin remains virtually unchanged. Germans remain the most frequently represented guests in February with a share of 31.5%. Austrians account for 19.8 percent of holidaymakers, closely followed by the Dutch with 20.1 percent.
