Ovechkin reaches next NHL milestone
Alexander Ovechkin scored his 20th and 21st goals of the season in his Washington Capitals' 5-2 win over the Calgary Flames in the North American Ice Hockey League (NHL) on Monday (local time), thus joining an elite circle. The 38-year-old Russian is only the third player in NHL history to score at least 20 goals in 19 consecutive years.
With his first goal of the game, Ovechkin cracked the 20-goal mark for the 19th time in his 19th season, joining Gordie Howe and Brendan Shanahan, who have also scored at least 20 goals 19 times.
The Capitals currently occupy the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, which would entitle them to a playoff spot.
