Ripped off by a fraudster

83-year-old Styrian transferred thousands of euros to “son”

Once again, fraudsters have struck with the so-called "daughter-son trick". An 83-year-old man from Upper Styria transferred several thousand euros.

Unknown perpetrators contacted the Upper Styrian (resident in the district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag) via text message and pretended to be a son. In the course of several conversations, the alleged descendant asked for money. The 83-year-old then made several bank transfers and is now several thousand euros poorer.

The Styrian police once again warn against the "daughter-son trick" and appeal to people to make sure that their son or daughter is actually in an emergency situation. There are currently an increasing number of such fraud attempts in Styria.
