On the southern highway
Broken power line fell on coach and truck
A coach driver and a truck driver must have had a fright on Sunday evening. A high-voltage power line snapped on the southbound freeway and fell onto the two vehicles.
The 46-year-old coach driver and the 28-year-old truck driver were traveling on the Südautobahn in the direction of Vienna at around 7 p.m. on Sunday when a high-voltage power line suddenly snapped in the Techelsberg area and crashed into the windshields of both vehicles, causing severe damage.
Small forest fire caused
"The severed high-voltage cable also caused a small fire in the forest next to the Südautobahn, which was quickly extinguished by the fire department," said the police.
Rail traffic was also affected. "The ruptured 110 kV line is likely to have damaged the ÖBB overhead line. We had to wait until the line was de-energized. We then cooled the affected line with water for around two hours," explained the Pörtschach fire department.
No one was injured in the incident. The vehicles were damaged to an unknown extent. The Pörtschach and Velden fire brigades, KNG Kärnten Netz and the ÖBB emergency service were deployed.
