Highlight Cup final
Three-pointer to bring St. Pölten’s first trophy
St. Pölten's footballers have won the league eight times in a row, but their first title was in the Cup in 2013. On Sunday, the newly founded basketball team will try to emulate them: In the cup final at home against Klosterneuburg for the first trophy! As part of a three-pack!
With so much in common: What could be more obvious than to combine the footballers' spring league opener and the basketballers' final into a double event today? With the men's basketball derby against Klosterneuburg starting at 6.30 pm, it's even a three-pack!
At 12.30 pm, the SKN footballers kick off against Austria in the sports center, then it's a few steps into the hall - where the SKN basketball players challenge the series champions from 3.30 pm. The Klosterneuburg women won the first derby, but suffered their first defeat after 49 league wins in the second! "The duel will be tough," says SKN manager Stefan Worenz, "for us it's our debut season, the pressure is more on Klosterneuburg."
Klosterneuburg coach Franz Zderadicka has already won the trophy twice in St. Pölten: in 2021 with the "Duchess" and in 1997 with the Möllersdorf men. Back then in the final against St. Pölten and Sergej Orekov, the father of St. Pölten's former WNBA player Inga Orekhova.
