Illegal possession of weapons
Hunter Biden’s trial starts in June
Five months before the US election, Hunter Biden goes on trial for illegal gun possession. Headlines that his dad and presidential candidate Joe Biden doesn't need at the moment.
Hunter Biden was charged with illegal possession of firearms last September. He is accused of briefly possessing a revolver in 2018, even though he was prohibited from doing so as a drug user.
In this context, he is also accused of making false statements in official documents relating to the purchase of weapons. The president's son has pleaded not guilty to the three charges.
The former lawyer, lobbyist and businessman has also pleaded not guilty in the tax fraud proceedings. He is accused of nine counts, including evading federal taxes over several years.
Judge Maryellen Noreika scheduled the Hunter Biden trial in Wilmington in the east coast state of Delaware for two weeks starting on June 3. This is shortly before the separate trial against the 54-year-old on tax fraud charges in the west coast state of California, which is scheduled to begin on June 20.
The president's son is not only being targeted by the judiciary, but also by the opposition Republicans. They want to damage Hunter's father in particular, but have been unable to produce any evidence of misconduct by Joe Biden despite more than a year of investigation.
