Raab: “The goal is a life free of violence for women”
At the World Conference on Women, Minister Susanne Raab (ÖVP) earned recognition for Austria's efforts with regard to women's work. However, there is still some catching up to do when it comes to men and childcare.
Women's Affairs Minister Susanne Raab (ÖVP) is currently in New York and took part in the annual UN World Conference on Women (CSW) in New York yesterday. In addition to Raab, ministers from 170 participating UN member states are represented. In a 5-minute speech, she expressed Austria's goals with regard to women. "The goal is for women and girls to be able to lead a self-determined and violence-free life according to their own ideas. This also requires the dismantling of old, outdated role models," says Raab.
The aim is for women and girls to be able to lead a self-determined and non-violent life according to their own ideas.

She also advocates a self-determined and violence-free life for girls and women, which is becoming more important than ever in light of recent incidents of rape and femicide. The outpatient violence clinics in particular made an impression at the conference. In bilateral talks with representatives from all over the world, the Minister received recognition for the Austrian parental leave system, for example. However, there is still some catching up to do when it comes to men and childcare. Appropriate framework conditions need to be created here.
