“Investing in young people pays off”

The state of Carinthia is once again supporting the placement of young people in apprenticeship workshops with 400,000 euros this year.

Despite the high demand for skilled workers, there are young people who are unable to find an apprenticeship with a company on their first attempt. "With IT-L@B, the bfi offers them an ideal opportunity to enter the world of work, as the team is particularly well trained in recognizing strengths and promoting talent," says labour market officer Gaby Schaunig.

Investing in young people

Youth unemployment is currently rising slightly. "We have established a broad network of support measures, including in the labor market, to give as many young people as possible access to training and further education as well as direct access to jobs. Investing in young people pays off a hundredfold - benefiting both the economy and employees," explains AMS Carinthia CEO Peter Wedenig. The placement rate for IT-L@B courses was as high as 70 percent in 2023.

Broad-based talent development

The socio-pedagogical approach in the inter-company training workshops is a key component of the training. Every young person finds a confidant there. "We follow the 'penguin principle'. The penguin has wings, but it can't fly. But if it jumps into the water, it is the fastest swimmer, so its real element is water. The aim is to find the right element for young people," concludes bfi department head Daniela Zöchmann.
