I would not have won the election. It was clear that "Sleepy Flo" Kreibich had to go down with his grotty election campaign. Neither the ÖVP in the Chiemseehof nor in the Chancellery were any help to the successor of the tired Harry Preuner.

However, Bernhard Auinger did not have the backing of the provincial party or Traiskirchen's chief comrade Babler. Apart from the head of the Chamber of Labor, Peter Eder, the SPÖ's mayoral candidates currently have hardly any strong supporters.

It was Auinger himself who catapulted himself to the top of the city of Salzburg as a tough fighter. Just as Tanja Kreer in Straßwalchen, Georg Djundja in Oberndorf and Alexander Stangassinger in Hallein have to fight through their issues single-handedly. Incidentally, David Egger could also find his destiny in the role of mayor in Neumarkt.

Many ÖVP mayors have once again proven that personal commitment pays off. Being really close to the citizens is still a better concept than the tactical games played by party managers in the city.

The rise of Kay-Michael Dankl, who wins hearts less as a communist than as a politician with a sense of reality, also shows that proximity counts.

I would be right in the election pools with the tip that there are still a few reasons for the Greens, at least in the city, but that there is currently little need for the Neos.
