After “head-on collision”: both drivers trapped in the car
A difficult operation for the emergency services on Friday evening near Nitscha (Weiz district in Styria). After a head-on collision between two cars, both drivers were trapped in their vehicle. They were seriously injured.
At around 8.45 p.m. on Friday, a 19-year-old was driving his vehicle on the B54 coming from Pischelsdorf in the direction of Gleisdorf. At the same time, a 57-year-old driver was in the opposite lane and drove towards the 19-year-old.
On the so-called Gamlingleiten, there was a violent head-on collision between the two vehicles for as yet unknown reasons. Both vehicles were thrown off the road and into the ditch.
Because one of the two vehicles made an automatic emergency call after the accident, the emergency services were quickly on the scene and were able to provide first aid to the seriously injured. What made the rescue more difficult, however, was that both drivers were trapped in their vehicles.
The Nitscha and Gleisdorf fire departments secured the scene of the accident and freed the two drivers from their vehicles. After first aid on site, the Red Cross took them to Graz Regional Hospital and Graz University Hospital.
The exact cause of the accident still needs to be clarified. Due to the severity of the injuries, it was not possible to test both drivers for alcohol.
