Arm almost chopped off: Indictment after machete attack

Doctors were able to save the victim's almost severed arm. Now the public prosecutor's office has located an attempted murder and charged the attacker, a Yeminite (39).

The "Krone" reported on the bloody incident, which took place on December 22nd in the Scherzhauserfeldsiedlung. The Salzburg public prosecutor's office has now brought charges against a previously blameless and unemployed Yemeni (39) on suspicion of attempted murder. He is said to have almost chopped off his victim's left forearm with a machete. Victim's lawyer Stefan Rieder already spoke to the "Krone" newspaper of a "medical masterpiece", as the doctors at the accident hospital were able to sew the arm back on and save it.

On that day, the victim wanted to buy cocaine and visited the home of an acquaintance. The Yemeni was also staying there. An argument over a 100-euro bill turned into a physical altercation: the Yemeni struck his opponent's head with his 40-centimetre-long cutlass. The latter was able to fend off the blow with his arm - resulting in a partial amputation, according to the indictment. Without the defense, the blow would have been fatal, the indictment reads. A trial date has not yet been set.
