Tennis ace Neumayer:
“Success is only a matter of time”
Despite a mediocre start to the season, Salzburg's tennis hopeful Lukas Neumayer is not at all worried The Radstadt native knows that he has to play more aggressively in close duels. If he succeeds in doing so in the future, he is convinced that success will not be long in coming.
Because he lagged behind his form in the first few months of 2023, tennis hopeful Lukas Neumayer had hardly any points to defend in the world rankings at the start of the year this year. However, the player from Radstadt has not really been able to take advantage of the opportunity to work his way up the rankings. He has been too inconsistent in recent tournaments, with a quarter-final at the Challenger in Tenerife, Spain, being the highest of the highs so far. "Sometimes I was very unlucky with my defeats. The results don't show that, but I was actually satisfied with my performance," says the 21-year-old protégé of former Thiem coach Günter Bresnik, not at all worried.
Lack of aggression
For Neumayer, one thing is clear: "Training is going great. If I carry on like this, success is only a matter of time." Because he also knows where he needs to start. "In close matches, I lack aggression in the decisive phases. I have to keep up my attacking tennis throughout the match and not become cautious."
Next week, the current world number 219 will travel to a tournament in Hungary, followed by several events in Spain. "I hope that I can still celebrate my first Challenger title this year," he says, eager to attack.
