Salzburg is very popular with female founders

On International Women's Day on Friday, the focus is not only on women in management positions, but also on those who have founded their own companies - and there are a pleasing number of them in Salzburg.

Women are now strongly represented in the start-up scene: 45 percent of all companies in Salzburg are founded by women. This means that there are almost twice as many female founders here than the national average (25 percent). On average, women are 37 years old when they start a business, while men generally take the plunge earlier (35 years). And one in three companies in the state is run by women.

"Women in business achieve outstanding things, they are innovative, creative and create growth and prosperity for our country," says Andrea Stifter from the Salzburg Chamber of Commerce, who heads up the "Women in Business" network. "They are increasingly gaining influence and are gaining ground professionally and economically. However, we still need to set the course for this successful development." She is thinking of the legal entitlement to a childcare place and a better and more flexible childcare offer overall.
