Courageous step
RTL star: “Diagnosis, severely disabled: and now?”
RTL weather presenter Eva Imhof takes a courageous step and goes public. She gives a health update that packs a punch.
RTL weather presenter Eva Imhof has been suffering from depression and anxiety disorders for years. Last year it got so bad that she almost died, she has now revealed. She told the magazine "Bunte" that she was in a coma three times last year.
The 45-year-old, who is considered severely disabled due to her illness - she showed her ID on Instagram and asked: "Diagnosis, severely disabled: and now?" - is struggling with the side effects of her medication.
"Why me?"
These should now be discontinued sooner than expected, as they cause severe tremors.
In a clip on Instagram, Imhof showed how much her hands tremble and how she broke her favorite cup as a result.
She also made it clear on the social media platform just how emotional the strain is for her.
"I'm so sad right now," Imhof tearfully revealed. "At times like this, I just think, I don't want to be severely disabled. I don't want to. [...] Why are all people normal and I'm severely disabled? That's so hard."
Fighting on
Despite the setbacks, the presenter is not giving up. "I have to keep going. I have to encourage you and those who may not have had it quite so bad, I have to prevent it from getting that bad," she emphasizes.
Imhof receives support from her fans and RTL colleagues. Frauke Ludowig (60) wrote to her: "Lots of strength for you! You are strong", and Jochen Schropp (45) commented: "You can do anything, Eva!"
Eva Imhof's courage and openness give hope to other people with mental health problems. Her message is clear: you can't give up, you have to keep fighting.
