World champion Max Verstappen has raced to the fastest time in the opening practice session of the Formula 1 race in Saudi Arabia. The Red Bull driver set the fastest lap on the Jeddah Corniche Circuit on Thursday in 1:29.659 minutes. Following his victory in the first Grand Prix of the year last weekend in Bahrain, Verstappen was still unimpressed by the power struggles raging within his racing team.

The Dutchman, who had complained about the engine in the meantime, relegated Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso to second place with a lead of 0.186 seconds.

Verstappen's team-mate Sergio Perez finished third, 0.209 seconds slower.
