New plans
New plans for the Schlosshotel am Wörthersee
The listed Hotel Wörthersee is falling apart. The Polish owner now wants to sell. It would be available for as little as 2.6 million euros. But the upcoming investments are huge. The "Krone" has found out for you what could come of it.
The former year-round business with a gourmet restaurant in Klagenfurt's Ostbucht has been empty for almost 20 years and continues to fall into disrepair. But now things are moving again. A possible sale is imminent.
In 2016, Marcin Wolski from Poland purchased the dilapidated castle hotel for 900,000 euros, hoping to demolish and rebuild it. However, things did not go as he wanted due to the listed building status.
Even a hole in the roof
"But now time is of the essence," says Sabine Biedermann, who is involved in saving the building. The jewel was completed in 1897. The hotel has 50 rooms with 130 beds, three dining rooms and 24 balconies. In the meantime, however, everything is falling apart. Drone footage even shows a hole in the roof through which water is seeping in. It's five to twelve for the former magnificent building.
"The city, state and federal government must help and create a house for Carinthia. The motto is 'culture, life and learning'," says Biedermann. However, the investment required is huge. "We could create a museum, with restaurants and a small boutique hotel. Space should be created for young people. One investor alone won't be able to do it. We are looking for several people. 3000 square meters are available, if everyone helps together, the building can be saved. We are looking for investors," says Biedermann.
