VCÖ analysis shows:
More new SUVs than ever before in Tyrol in 2023
Almost every second new car in Tyrol was an SUV last year. The Austrian Transport Club (VCÖ) is therefore calling for stricter regulations from the EU. Außerfern was the front runner.
The proportion of SUVs in new cars in Tyrol last year was higher than ever before, according to a recent analysis by Verkehrsclub Österreich (VCÖ). A total of 9857 of these vehicles were registered last year. The proportion of SUVs among new cars has almost doubled since 2015.
Four out of ten SUVs are plug-in hybrids or electric cars. The off-road sedans or city SUVs have a higher energy consumption than conventional models. The real consumption is on average more than three times as high as the manufacturer's specification, criticizes the VCÖ. It is also calling for better EU guidelines: "Politicians are called upon to set framework conditions so that manufacturers bring more economical models onto the market in the interests of the population and the environment."
The Außerfern region had the highest proportion of SUVs at 54.3 percent, while the Schwaz district had the lowest at 43.9 percent.
