16-year-old killed
Largest Israeli raid in Ramallah for years
On Monday night, Israeli security forces carried out the largest raid in years in the West Bank city of Ramallah. According to Palestinian reports, a 16-year-old boy was killed during the operation in the Palestinian administrative capital.
According to eyewitness reports, Israeli soldiers entered Ramallah, where the Palestinian Authority led by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is based, with dozens of military vehicles. A statement from the Israeli side was not yet available.
Shot with live ammunition
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that Israeli soldiers had killed 16-year-old Mustafa Abu Shalbak during searches in the Am'ari refugee camp. According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, clashes broke out when Israeli soldiers stormed the camp. They shot at Palestinian youths with live ammunition. Abu Shalbak was shot in the chest and neck.
Tensions and violence on the rise
Since the start of the war between Israel and the militant Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip at the beginning of October, tensions and violence have also increased in the West Bank, the other Palestinian territory governed by the moderate Fatah.
At least 400 Palestinians have since been killed in clashes with Israeli soldiers and settlers. Israeli security forces regularly take action against Palestinians in the area, which has been occupied since 1967.
