In Graz-Wetzelsdorf
Poison bait: Bitch “Ronja” dies in agony
A crazy animal abuser is apparently on the loose in Graz: after incidents in Eggenberg, poisoned bait has now also turned up in Wetzelsdorf. This insidious action has already cost one dog her life. The police are investigating.
It is probably the nightmare of all dog owners, which has now become reality for a Graz family: Their dog "Ronja" died in agony from poisoned bait, the deadly trap lurking in their own garden in Wetzelsdorf of all places.
It is not the first such incident in the Styrian capital in recent days. Previously, poisoned bait had already turned up in the neighboring district of Eggenberg.
City councillor horrified
"It is simply unbelievable what some people are capable of. It is inexplicable to me why an innocent dog had to suffer an agonizing death from poisoned bait. Your own garden should offer your dog safety from potential dangers and not be a source of danger," said animal welfare councillor Claudia Schönbacher (KFG), who is also appalled.
Pet owners are now called upon to exercise particular caution. In Wetzelsdorf, several minced meatballs were found in gardens and front yards in the Haaräckerstraße/Heimweg area on Sunday.
The police are investigating. The police are asking for help from the public - information or poisoned bait finds should be reported to the Eggenberg police station on 059/1336582-100. Councillor Schönbacher has now offered 500 euros for information leading to the apprehension of the perpetrator.
