Large-scale police operation after suspected gunshots

A large-scale deployment of WEGA and the police took place at Arthaberplatz in Vienna-Favoriten on Tuesday afternoon. Witnesses had called the emergency services because they claimed to have heard shots. According to the police, several people were injured.

The police received several calls at midday on Tuesday. Witnesses had heard gunshots at Arthaberplatz in Vienna-Favoriten after several people had fired alarm guns in the park.

Three men (26, 32, 32) are believed to have asked the shooters to stop shooting. This escalated the situation. The gunmen attempted to shoot at the men with the alarm guns and injure them with a knife. An attentive reader reporter observed the incident (see video below).

According to the eyewitness, one of the two men lying on the ground, who can be seen in the video, is said to have a blank-firing pistol. 

Two of the armed men (both 19 and from Serbia) were arrested by the police officers who were alerted. One person suffered abrasions. The police were able to seize several alarm guns, knives and bullet casings.
