A 31-year-old woman's illegal cake shop in Upper Austria has been busted following an advertisement on a social media platform. The woman sold at least 806 cakes - priced at 90 euros each - and thus made around 72,000 euros in black money. She had been receiving unemployment benefit and emergency unemployment assistance since the beginning of 2022.

According to the Arbeitsmarktservice (AMS) Upper Austria, the accused received around 16,882 euros illegally, the Ministry of Finance announced on Sunday.

Reclaims are pending
The 31-year-old is awaiting repayment of the AMS benefits she wrongly applied for. In addition, the financial police filed a complaint with the public prosecutor's office for fraud and with the tax office for tax evasion.

Treacherous advertisement
The tax police were alerted by an advertisement that referred to the woman's social media account. She had posted 806 pictures there to advertise her cakes. She also used the platform to offer the option of placing orders via direct message. The illegal cake baker collected 90 euros per cake.
