South of Ferlach
“No damage”: earthquakes shake Carinthia
The earth shook in Carinthia - twice: the epicenter was nine kilometers south-east of Ferlach.
"No damage to buildings is known to date - and not to be expected at this magnitude," says seismologist Helmut Hausmann reassuringly. According to the experts from "GeoSphere", the epicenter was in the Karawanken mountains. The first quake at 11.11 a.m., at a depth of eleven kilometers, reached a magnitude of 3.0 according to Richter - the second at 11.21 a.m., at a depth of nine kilometers, a magnitude of 2.6.
Perceptible as far as the Klagenfurt area
Both earthquakes, around nine kilometers south of Ferlach, were clearly felt by many people. Some of them reacted with great concern. "And they were felt as far away as the Klagenfurt area," explains the expert. Earthquake perceptions should be reported on the "GeoSphere Austria" website at https://www.geosphere.at/.
