Six kilograms of drugs
Cocaine drive through Carinthia: Police seizure in Rome
Narcotics officers took up the chase shortly after the border in Tarvisio, Italy - and finally seized kilograms of cocaine and hashish in Rome.
For weeks, Italian investigators were on the trail of an Albanian drug gang operating from Rome - and so they also knew that two drug couriers were on a "business trip" in Austria a few days ago. Thanks to cooperation with their red-white-red colleagues and cell phone surveillance, the investigators were able to follow the suspects very closely and observe where they were - and how they moved.
And so the Italian investigators laid in wait in Tarvisio: the suspected smugglers had traveled from Vienna via the A2 through Carinthia and were heading towards the border - as the "Krone" learned from Italian investigators. After the suspects had crossed the state border, the officers attached themselves to the smuggling vehicle - in order to be guided unnoticed to the gang hideout.
Pursuit over 740 kilometers
And the criminalists' plan finally paid off around 740 kilometers further south: Outside a garage in Rome, the investigators struck and seized a total of six kilograms of packaged cocaine worth at least around 500,000 euros in the vehicle of the suspects (aged 26 and 54) - in addition to 18,000 euros in cash drug money and a further four kilograms of hashish hidden in the cavity of a fire door.
