Elias case: Court changes penalties for parents

In the case of little Elias, the Supreme Court has changed the penalties for the parents from Salzburg. The baby was shaken to death by his parents in October 2022 when he was just seven weeks old.

Six months after the trial against the parents of little Elias, who died of shaking trauma in October 2022 at the age of just seven weeks, the Supreme Court (OGH) on Wednesday reduced the penalties for the father and increased them for the mother.

The defense lawyers had demanded lighter sentences for both parents, the public prosecutor's office higher sentences. The mother now faces 18 instead of 16 years in prison, the father ten instead of twelve years.

Murder and continued use of violence
The mother, now 21 years old, was convicted of murder and continued violence. The 26-year-old father was convicted of continued violence and assault causing death - in both cases by omission.
