Vienna Airport expands Terminal 3 for € 420 million
Vienna Airport will significantly expand Terminal 3 in the coming years and is investing 420 million euros in the project. Last year, 29.5 million passengers were handled in Schwechat, the second-best result in the airport's history.
By 2027, over 30 new shopping and catering facilities, more lounge areas, lounges, a new security checkpoint and 18 new bus gates are to be built on an area of 10,000 square meters. The construction project has been underway since July 2023 and the intensive construction phase is now starting with the civil engineering work.
The project will be financed entirely from future cash flow, without loans, said airport CEO Günther Ofner. Tenant acquisition is in full swing for the more than 30 stores and restaurants planned. Renowned Austrian and international top brands and premium providers are to move in.
Third "runway" will not be ready until 2031
No decisions will be made this year regarding the planned third runway, said CEO Julian Jäger in January. However, preparations are underway to be ready for a decision in 2025 or 2026. The Executive Board is assuming a construction period of seven years.
