Tyrol: Trust in sat nav almost ends in a crash
Once again, blind faith in a satnav proved fatal for a driver in Tyrol. A Slovakian (44) lost his way in the Windachtal valley in the Stubai Alps. The man got stuck in a hairpin bend. The Floriani team was able to prevent a fall.
The emergency services were alerted shortly before 4 a.m. on Tuesday. They were told that a vehicle was in danger of crashing. The police and fire department then went to the scene in Windachtal. There they found the Slovakian driver.
Vehicle recovered by the fire department
The driver had previously left the snow-covered road and got stuck in a hairpin bend. The "roadway" was merely a forest road. The car, which was not fitted with snow chains, was in danger of crashing. Luckily, the Floriani team were able to prevent this.
The 44-year-old told the emergency services that he actually wanted to drive to Telfes in the Stubai Valley. However, the navigation system had led him via the route through Sölden.
