On Saturday night, unknown persons broke into at least ten parked vehicles in St. Marein and St. Lorenzen im Mürztal (Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district). Electrical appliances and valuables were stolen. The investigation is ongoing.

Apparently during the night hours, the perpetrators broke into the parked vehicles in an as yet unknown manner. Six of the vehicles affected had been parked in the carports of a housing estate in Industriestraße (St. Marein im Mürztal). Four others were located in St. Lorenzen im Mürztal, a few kilometers or minutes away. The strangers stole cell phones, a laptop, a jacket and several wallets including documents, cash and ATM cards from the ten vehicles. It is currently unclear how the strangers were able to get into the vehicles. At present, it must be assumed that at least some of the vehicles may have been unlocked. In any case, no signs of forced entry have been found.

The damage caused is currently estimated to be at least several hundred euros. The stolen ATM cards are likely to have been used illegally by the perpetrators immediately after the crime. Further investigations are underway in this regard. Police are also investigating whether there is a connection between the crime and other vehicle break-ins.
