Pensioner with rollator hit by streetcar

It was extremely unfortunate: a 71-year-old woman from Linz bumped into the road divider with her rollator while crossing the road, got stuck there and was unable to continue. Despite emergency braking, the driver of an incoming streetcar was unfortunately unable to prevent the collision.

It must have been a terrifying few seconds when the woman realized that her rollator could no longer move forward! 
On Tuesday evening, shortly before 6 p.m., the 71-year-old wanted to cross the streetcar tracks with her walking frame at a marked crossing in Ferdinand-Markl-Straße in Linz.

Kerbstone was insurmountable
After she had almost passed the tracks, the mishap occurred: she bumped the front wheel of her rollator against the kerb of the road divider and got stuck. A disastrous mishap - because unfortunately for her, a streetcar set was also approaching at that moment.

Against the windshield
The driver of the tram (54) immediately initiated emergency braking, but was unable to prevent the collision. The Linz woman was hit, thrown against the windshield and came to rest on the road.

An emergency doctor treated the seriously injured woman on the spot. She was then taken to the MedCampus III of the Kepler University Hospital Linz - she is now out of danger. The driver of the streetcar suffered a shock and had to be cared for by the crisis intervention team.
