Home invasion: Homeowner shot at burglar

Dramatic scenes in the district of Korneuburg (Lower Austria): A 71-year-old homeowner shot at a burglar on Wednesday night. This was preceded by a home invasion in which several perpetrators were involved.

Dramatic scenes caused fear and terror in the district of Korneuburg on Tuesday night: at around 1 a.m., three strangers broke into a house in Würnitz in the municipality of Harmannsdorf. The occupants, a married couple, were asleep at the time.

Dog raised the alarm
The dog raised the alarm, whereupon the woman woke up and went to investigate. She caught the trio in the act, whereupon the 50-year-old woman was immediately attacked with an iron bar and injured.

Awakened by the noise, her husband rushed to her aid. He was also immediately attacked by the criminals. The 71-year-old then fired a shot from his legally owned revolver at the intruders. One of the three perpetrators was hit and collapsed in the garden.

Couple suffered injuries
The other two were able to escape, but without any loot. The injured man was operated on at the regional hospital and arrested. His condition is stable. The crime scene and robbery group of the Lower Austrian Criminal Police Office has taken over the investigation and is currently securing the evidence.

The 50-year-old woman was treated as an outpatient in hospital, both victims suffered severe shock as a result of the dramatic home invasion. The search for the two fleeing perpetrators has so far been unsuccessful.
