Woman (53) arrested after arson
After a fire broke out in an apartment building in Vienna-Donaustadt last Saturday, the 57-year-old man's life is still in danger. His partner is said to have set fire to a blanket. She has now been arrested by the police for arson.
Several people were injured in the serious apartment fire. Five tenants suffered smoke inhalation. The 57-year-old is in mortal danger due to his severe burns. All of the injured were taken to hospital by the Vienna Professional Rescue Service.
Suspect was under the influence of alcohol
The partner of the seriously injured man is still a suspect. Under the influence of alcohol, she is said to have set fire to a bedspread and left the apartment after failing to extinguish the fire. The woman is said to suffer from a mental illness.
She was transferred to a psychiatric ward shortly afterwards and charged with negligently causing a fire. The woman has now also been arrested by order of the Vienna public prosecutor's office. She is currently still in hospital due to health problems and is being monitored by judicial officers.
