The infamous "Tanzmayr curve" on the B131 in Walding (Upper Austria) claimed another victim. On Monday morning, two cars crashed head-on into each other after a risky overtaking maneuver. The driver (59) of a VW station wagon was extremely lucky to get out of his completely destroyed vehicle alive.

A 59-year-old from Alberndorf was driving his car on the B131 coming from Ottensheim in the direction of Aschach at around 6 a.m. on Monday. At the so-called "Tanzmayr curve" - where there have already been several fatalities - the driver is believed to have overtaken a tanker despite the barrier line there, the police said in a statement.

The wreckage was scattered all over the road.

Crashed into a truck
The driver of the car overlooked the car of a 59-year-old driver from Feldkirchen an der Donau. There was a serious collision, as a result of which one of the vehicles - a VW estate - was thrown against the semitrailer of the heavy goods vehicle and came to a halt in the middle of the road, severely damaged. The driver miraculously survived.

The second car was also badly damaged in the accident. Both drivers were taken to the accident hospital in Linz with injuries of indeterminate severity. The truck driver remained uninjured. The B131 was closed in the area of the accident for around 90 minutes.
