Man seriously injured
After room fire in Vienna: three children in hospital
One man was seriously injured in a room fire in a multi-party apartment building in Vienna-Donaustadt on Saturday evening. Six other residents - including three children - had to be taken to hospital, the professional fire department announced on Sunday.
The professional fire department had fought the fire in Wehrbrücklstraße with eight vehicles and 39 firefighters. The professional rescue service also provided emergency medical care with a special task force of 16 rescue teams.
Flames in ground floor apartment
The fire broke out in a ground floor apartment after 9 p.m. for reasons that are as yet unknown. When the fire department arrived, flames were shooting out of a window and the stairwell was filled with smoke due to the open apartment door. A person was trapped in the apartment at the time and was found lying on the floor by a breathing apparatus unit. The man was rescued and taken outside.
Fire department brought the occupant outside
Two extinguishing lines were laid to fight the fire. Some of the residents - including the seriously injured man's roommate - had left the building on their own, while others were brought out of their apartments by the fire department wearing breathing apparatus due to the heavy smoke development.
